Linkem

Goals

After the huge success of SuperMe, the online experience created in close collaboration with Somethin’ Else designed to help teens be happier, more resilient and better at life, we wanted to make sure the great games content could be enjoyed by as many of the target audience as possible.

Channel 4 recognised that an ever growing percentage of their teen audience was moving into the mobile space, so taking tried and tested, popular elements of SuperMe and making them work in the online space was a smart and cost effective solution.

Solution

Linkem was by far the most popular in the suite of games developed for SuperMe, and was one that lent itself perfectly to mobile devices. We developed Linkem for both iPhone and Android audiences as that is where the audiences were.

The game was designed to reflect the connections we all make in life, with positive connections being strong and sturdy, and weak links straining and breaking when things get tough. Best described as a cross between Drop 7 and Connect 4, with modern twists, players have to make strong connections between orange rings and connecting lines of 4 or more puts you on the scoreboard, but overloading weak links causes the rings to drop.

Special rings give you the power to flip rings and beads around you, giving you the ability to flip whole rows and columns, or switch the rings in close proximity when the opportunity arises. Players need to develop a strategy to avoid weak connections. Players who can clear the whole board get a huge score boost.

It’s a fun and addictive mobile game. Involving, challenging and mentally stimulating. It’s open ended play and deliberately relaxed feel make it a great time killer. You can easily lose 30 minutes playing before you’ve realised. As part of Channel 4’s public service remit, the game is available for free in the UK, however it is available for sale abroad.
